That's the thing about customs. It's not a paperwork problem. It's a predictable-problems problem. And that's exactly the thing AI is finally getting good at.

Risk-scoring before the truck even rolls. CBP and CBSA have been scoring shipments against trade data for years now. It decides in seconds whether your container is a 5-minute exam or a full agriculture hold. The driver in the booth isn't guessing — the system flagged it at the gate.
Document checks that used to take a human now take a scanner. Invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin. The HS code on the invoice either matches the one in the system or it doesn't. That mismatch is where most delays start — an 8471 that should've been an 8542, a unit price on a customs entry that's half what it is on the commercial invoice.
X-ray screening that points at the problem. The non-intrusive inspection gear at the big ports scans a container in minutes now. The software doesn't unload the box — it tells the examiner where to look in the box. Huge difference in how fast an exam clears.
